Valentine's Day Boxes, Etc.

Valentine's is quite the interesting holiday in 5th grade. Kids start to think they might like boys/girls, but they are also still kids. I'm always amazed that they still loving doing silly little holiday things.
It's been a few years since I have done a good Valentine box. It's just too easy to give them a boring paper bag. But, this year I found a cute box on Pinterest and decided to give it a try. It was SOOOO easy and Super cute. We used Kleenex boxes, which I spray painted, then the kids put polka dots on them with paint. We added some eyes from egg cartons, and teeth out of white cardstock. They are so cute all lined up on my cupboard.

These are the Valentines I am giving my class this year. I found the printable on Lil Luna. The mustaches are from Amazon--they sound totally disgusting--wax moustaches? Yuck!! I am hoping nobody wants to eat it in class, because I will have to hear about it. But--it was just too cute to pass up.
We are going to do some random acts of kindness tomorrow. I bought some colorful pens and markers. I'm going to have the kids package these up and write on the tag. Then--we are going to go out to the parking lot and put them on the cars. I think the kids will really love it--and who wouldn't like getting a surprise that was useful after a long sugar-filled day at school?
This morning, I put several school supply items on my kids' desks. A pen, pencil, eraser, glue stick. You would have thought they each got an expensive gift. Then, they asked where they came from. Of course I played dumb and said I didn't know---but it is random acts of kindness week, maybe somebody just brought them in. They didn't even question that is was me--which is hilarious. So, now we're going go "pay it forward,"

Kids Valentine

Here are my kids Valentine for this year. I cannot take much credit for the ideas because they all came off Pinterest. Each on is pretty cool for my kids to give to there class. First up: Kindergarten Valentine you blow me Away
I bought the little recorders at Target, they came four in a package for $2. Then for the heart I did everything on my Silhouette Machine. I printed it on my printer and then had the Silhouette cut it out. I had a few hearts that Megan and Ashlynn did cut out. I think they will be a lot of fun for her to hand out. Second up is for her Dance class. She would actually prefer to give these to her class and the recorders to her dance class, I think she likes them the best.
I had my mom help me with the elastic. It took two pieces sowed together, then we put them on the notebooks.
I got the notebooks at Walmart at the start of the school year. I think they were $1 and they had four in a package.
When we came home Ashlynn added the crayons to it. I think they turned out really cute. Fifth Grade I chews you.
Megan seemed to have a hard time finding the perfect Valentine this year. The one she really wanted we couldn't find the stuff, and then she picked another one but I kind of helped decide that it should be something different. We both agreed on this and she is pretty excited to use it. I got this printable from Love the Day and just bought the gum at the grocery store. I am pretty sure her class will love them.

Ashley told me that it was my turn to post something, and I haven't really been doing anything so I decided that Project Life would be a good topic today. Last year I really didn't want to do Project Life at all, but Steve convinced me to do it by saying that he would help out with it and actually do most of it. He really likes taking pictures so I thought well I guess that would be okay. I ordered the kit Clemintine and January started and he did really good, but pretty quickly tapered off, so it was left to me. I will admit that I really had a hard time doing it again this year and that is why I am posting this, it isn't done.
Last year we basically did a picture a day, and I loved it and so do my kids. This year I took pictures of things happening, but not necessary by day or even by week. In June I caught myself up on pictures, but my journaling is no where close to being done. At this point I still need to add pictures from December on.
I can say that life took a turn on us this year and I am really glad that I had Project Life to document it. If I hadn't started it I would not have documented or even printed the pictures from Steve's mom's funeral. I am so glad that I do have somewhere to put these things. So for 2013 I have again purchased Project Life Seafoam and this year I am going to just document what feels right. There will be no pressure to have daily or even weekly pictures. I have a feeling that it will mostly be an event filled binder and that okay, because at least I will have the story written down and the pictures printed off and not just sitting on a hard drive. I am hoping to have everything caught up by the first of March. Wish me Luck and lots of it.
